About Anselmo Alegria

Mr. Alegria is a graduate of Hunter College of the City University of New York and Albany Law School. He has 25 years of experience representing state and federal government agencies, and representing private clients in litigation in state and federal courts, as well as state and federal agencies. He began his career in public service when he served a total of 13 years as a city prosecutor in the Queens County District Attorney's Office, and as a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York. He has been the trial prosecutor in over 100 cases and has argued cases in the appellate courts of New York State and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He has lectured on trial advocacy to other attorneys.
In the private sector, he has been lead attorney for plaintiffs in over 100 civil cases, lead attorney for criminal defendants in criminal cases and has represented nearly 100 claimants seeking social security disability benefits. The civil cases have included claims of medical malpractice, wrongful death, serious physical injury cases, false arrest and false imprisonment, and significant claims of property damage. He has won jury verdicts and has settled cases resulting in awards and payments of tens of millions of dollars. He has successfully represented many individuals who have been wrongly denied social security disability benefits, sometimes resulting in awards of tens of thousands of dollars in back-due payments. He has represented individuals accused of serious felonies and misdemeanor offenses.
